Valsgärde burial field

Ship burial ground near the Fyris River

On a moraine hill next to the Fyrisån river at Valsgärde you will find a grave from the Iron Age. The hill is divided by a longitudinal depression with traces of an ancient road. At the top are oval-shaped depressions, which are traces of ship burials. In these, which are from the Vendel and Viking periods (550-1050 AD), important men were buried in ships together with magnificent grave accoutrements like weapons, saddlery, glass goblets, household utensils and sacrificial animals.
